Nokia in partnership with e-commerce giant Flipkart is now gearing up to launch an Android TV Box in the Indian market. While there is no official word around the same, according to sources, the Nokia-branded media streaming device is expected to be launched on Flipkart in August.
The upcoming media streaming device will be powered by Android 9.0 operating system and will offer an output of 1080p Full HD resolution. The device is expected to come with a voice-controlled remote with Google Assistant support.
There will be support for Chromecast as well and will also allow users to cast their mobile phone screens onto their TV.
In December last year, Flipkart entered a brand licensing partnership with Nokia to launch a smart TV running Android 9.0 operating system. Launched at Rs 41,999, the Nokia-branded TV from Flipkart offers a 55-inch 4K panel with speakers tuned by JBL.
As far as content is concerned, the Nokia TV offered support for all popular streaming platforms out-the-box and it is expected that this device will also provide the same.
It would be interesting to see how the new Nokia media streaming device is priced in India. As for competitors, apart from Amazon Fire TV Stick, Xiaomi has also recently launched its Android TV Box with 4K HDR support at Rs 3,499.
The Mi Box 4K comes with HDR 10 which offers true to life colour. The device also is powered by Dolby Atmos and it comes with Android TV 9.0 out-of-the-box. The device also comes with a built-in Google Assistant which allows users to control the Mi Box 4k using voice commands. The device also comes with Google’s Data Saver feature. This means users can watch more videos with their same amount of data, it will also send regular data consumption updates to users and it enables users to cast local content on a TV without WiFi.
